HAPPY NEW YEAR WITH STRAUSS & STRAUS
In celebration of the start of another year of classical music, a programme of suitably festive music.
In addition to celebrating the start of another year, two other important events are also remembered:
- The birth of Johann Strauss (Snr) on 14 March 1804 - 200 years ago
- The death of Oscar Straus (no relation to the Strauss family) on 11 January 1954 - 50 years ago
The programme will start off with a few selections from operettas by Johann Strauss (Jnr).
The first part of the programme will conclude with a couple of items from operettas by Oscar Straus.
The second part of the programme will contain a video recording of the entire 1987 New Year's Concert (Vienna), featuring music by:
The Vienna Philharmonic is led by Herbert von Karajan
Kathleen Battle (soprano) is the vocal soloist
The video also features the Ballet of the Vienna State Opera and the Spanish Horse Riding School of Vienna
